Roaming Through Michigan

posted 2013 Mar by Michigan Awesome

Here is a neat old documentary by James A. FitzPatrick. This video is Roaming Through Michigan and is part of his TravelTalks series made in 1950. It is a bit lengthy, so sit back, relax, and enjoy this Michigan relic.

He guides you through the beautiful scenery of Northern Michigan, atop the majestic Sleeping Bear Dunes and the LeelanAwesome Peninsula. There he speaks a little of the wild life and introduces you to Spikehorn Meyer, a tamer of bears and wooer of women, which you’ll understand the second you see the glorious man.

Considering 4 out of 5 Great Lakes Prefer Michichigan, FitzPatrick talks of the various boats on the Great Lakes and the Annual Boat Rigada on Mackinac Island. He doesn’t forget the beauty of the Upper Peninsula and Lake Superior which requires boats to use the Soo Locks in Sault Ste. Marie to get from Superior to the other Great Lakes. Back in the day, i.e. 1845, the first steamboat from Superior had to be portaged, which took seven weeks and now ships ten times the size can move through the Locks in less than an hour!

It’s not easy to forget about the beauty of Michigan but sometimes it’s nice to be reminded anyway. Whether you want to picnic with the bears or your friends at Tahquamenon Falls, Michigan has it for you. For years our land has awed and inspired. We don’t expect it to stop anytime soon.

Calling All Michigan Designers and Illustrators!

posted 2012 May by Michigan Awesome

We've been contacted by designers and illustrators more times than we can count, asking if they can get involved, if we ever hire out design help, etc etc. We live in a State with a lot of creative people!

This month, MichiganAwesome wants your help to create a line of Limited Edition shirts! As you probably know, MichiganAwesome offers over 30 designs in celebration of our hometown Michigan love. We want to invite you, Michigan’s-Most-Awesome Designers and Illustrators, to take what we've already done and do something unique with it!

Here’s how this works:

- Pick your favorite design that we offer at www.MichiganAwesome.org.

- Incorporate the entire “phrase/slogan,” and if you wish, the Michigan outline that we use, into your new interpretation of that specific MichiganAwesome shirt. You can make it look however you would like.

- Please limit your design to 3 colors or less. Please keep your design within dimensions 9” wide and 12” tall.

- Please also pick out your favorite color of the AmericanApparel 50/25/25 shirts to use for your shirt. You can view the 8 available colors here -> http://store.americanapparel.net/tr401.html

- Submit your new design to Info@MichiganAwesome.org

We will pick our favorite designs by Monday, May 28th. If we pick your design, we’ll ask for your Vector artwork. Ai files (outlined) are fine too.

If we pick your shirt, here’s what you get:

- 3 complimentary shirts featuring your design.

- 50% off at our online store for your next order.

- Your name, a brief bio of you, and a link to your website or Facebook Page directly from the product page for your shirt at www.MichiganAwesome.org

- Tons of “shout outs” from our Facebook Page and Twitter feed including links to your personal Facebook Page and/or website.

These shirts will be a Limited Edition and will be available Summer 2012.

Questions? We’ll do our best to answer them at Info@MichiganAwesome.org

Dutch Empire

posted 2012 Apr by Michigan Awesome

On Friday March 30th, Dutch Empire made it's debut.

"With a city bearing the name Holland and a festival devoted to Tulips, Michigan's West Coast is home to the DUTCH EMPIRE."

It's been amazing to see the response to this shirt as they have been shipped all over West Michigan as well as 15 other states in just it's first week.

Enough of you also asked for it in Orange and we've made that available too.

Mlive.com wrote the first article about the new shirt proclaiming Dutch Pride and The Holland Sentinal noticed that "Holland-themed shirts are blooming around the area."

With Tulip Time coming up soon, we look forward to seeing many you wearing your new MichiganAwesome shirt at the festivities!
